A beautiful space in the "Yellow House" where we exhibit 12 artists on the "Legends of Costa Rica".
I exhibited "Reaching the sky", a work inspired by "The Zurquí legend":
A few kilometers from the city of San José, Costa Rica, are the valleys of the Barva volcano. Many years ago there lived a Terraba princess called Turi Uha, who lived quietly in a town where her father ruled as chief.
But one day a warrior who had his forehead high as a mountain, crossed the Zurquí forests to reach the Terran tribe, looking for Turi Uha, the woman he loved, his flower of the valleys.
The princess also loved the warrior, but they had to flee together in search of other lands, far from their tribes, since they were enemies and would not allow their union.
Love cannot grow in the territory of war, so Turi Uha fled down the mountain with the warrior. She was only accompanied by some of her friends.
When Turi Uha's father chief realized this, he was enraged and marched with his warriors in search of the fugitives.
The pounding of footsteps and the snapping of broken branches as they ran were heard throughout the mountain. The enamored warrior, the one with the forehead high as a mountain, fell dead by his pursuers.
His soul rose to the top of the hill, there, according to the belief of his people, the dead lived, in the abode of the god "Sibu".
The princess and her friends continue to flee through the jungle. Turi Uha, in her sorrow for the death of the warrior, wants to reach the top, where she will dwell with the soul of her loved one.
And while they flee from their pursuers, something wonderful happens: little by little their bodies become more agile, their skin transforms into silky wings ... they have been turned into butterflies, which take flight to reach the sky.
That is why she is often seen in large numbers on the magical peaks of Zurquí.
